Recently Sony has announced that they will release a slimmer Playstation 3, similar to the slimmer Playstation 2. The new Playstation 3 will cost $269 dollars, and will include:
- a volume and weight reduction of 20% and 25% respectively from the current PS3 model
- 250 GB of memory
- a Game of the Year Edition Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception
- $30 Dust 514 in game voucher
The 250 GB version will be available in the US on September 25th. There will also be a 500 GB version available for $300 on October 30th. This version will include Assassin’s Creed III. There will also be a white version available only in Japan.

So it’s the PS3 DOUBLE Slim?
I see Sony hired Jay Wilson.
Why even release another variant of the PS3 without backwards compatibility?
Weren’t some of the JP versions or something going to have a SSD?
I’m finding a lot of conflicting reports on that. The sites that are reporting on it are mostly European, so as far as I can tell, the 12 GB SSD will be released on October 12th (http://www.techradar.com/news/gaming/new-ps3-arrives-slim-lined-and-packing-ssd-memory-1098437) and will cost $300 dollars, though I’m finding others that claim it will be $270 and will be released September 28th.
While searching again just now I found this interesting forum post.

Yeah, it’s europe exclusive version and I’m pretty sure it has just your regular shitty flash memory, not an actual SSD.
But putting an SSD in a PS3 sounds like a good idea to me, I think I will actually try this when that Dragon’s Dogma expansion comes out.
but…. why?
