Obsidian’s next big RPG project seems to be close to being announced. A project so secret it doesn’t even have a codename, referred to only as Project X.
The first hints of the forthcoming announcement came from Obsidian’s homepage, which has been updated with a teaser image featuring a number four, a dragon eating its tail and a few words:
“What do the words mean?”
“Nothing. The Dirge of Eir Glanfath is sound without form, a lone voice crying out in mourning because it must.”
A peek at the page’s source code reveals an additional bit of text:
“To tenderness, fellowship. To fellowship, vigilance. So bring we all to the Night Market. I am the Spindle of Esenath. Know me by my light and stand with me in darkness.”
Some quick Googling of the various proper nouns reveals nothing, suggesting that this might be a new, original fantasy setting of some kind. Or it could be Dungeon Siege 4, but the amount of hype Obsidian seems interested in generating with this one doesn’t seem to fit that theory.
Let the wild speculation begin.
UPDATE: The text on the homepage has changed. The number four has changed to a three, seemingly putting an end to speculation that this is Dungeon Siege 4.
“The reason we don’t explain it is the reason we use it. Its power is in its mystery. That is the Leaden Key, in part, in whole. Is it clear?”
“Digging for truth buries the seeker.”
And in the page source:
Two centuries ago, your divine champion told the people of Dyrwood to grovel at his feet. If you’ve come on pilgrimage to the blasted crater that was our reply, Godhammer Citadel is *that* way.

I heard it could have something to do with the Wheel of Time game they were supposedly working on. That was Obsidian, right?
Otherwise, only thing I could think of is some kind of Skyrim-related thing, but Bethesda seems content to handle all that themselves.
I would love for this to be a Wheel of Time game, and the Dragon/Ouroboros imagery and reference to a spindle fits, but from what I’d heard another developer was making that game, and Obsidian was just assisting in some capacity.
Nice writing. Looking forward to it.
Holy balls, is that ever some pretentious shit right there.
