The business world is funny sometimes. We live in a world where marketing campaigns are so calculated and tightly controlled that we get such silly things as announcements announcing that future announcements will soon be announced. One announcement is never quite good enough.
While the big secret release date for Torchlight 2 has probably been set in stone for weeks or even months now, that news has to be managed carefully and issued at just the right time and place to generate the desired hype, or so marketers seem to believe. They know the internet is a thing, right?
Enough being a smartass. The release date for Runic Games’ highly anticipated action-RPG, Torchlight 2, will be unveiled this Friday at PAX Prime.
“August 31 kicks off of our favorite con, PAX Prime, and we’ll be there to show Torchlight II and tell everyone the official Torchlight II launch date!,” said the company in a blog post. “And yes, we will be announcing the official launch date of Torchlight II on Friday morning. Look for it here, on Facebook, and on Twitter. We’ll see you then!” Favorite con? We’ve reached out to PAX East for word on how badly their feelings were just hurt.
If you’re a fan of ARPGs and you haven’t pre-purchased Torchlight 2 on Steam yet, you probably should. It’s only twenty bucks and comes with a copy of the (pretty damn good) original, which, supposedly, it will be four times longer than. Considering Runic’s team is made up of most of the remnants of the old Blizzard North, some consider Torchlight 2 to be the “true” Diablo 3.

I’m not a huge fan of Torchlight, but I admire their philosophy
Now… when they announced, in the first place, that the game would come out this summer, I was picturing myself having a tons of fun DURING HOLLIDAYS…not…when I have go back to work…and…have some sleep…and stay focused…y’know…
I ended up wasting my time on Team Fortress 2… I don’t even know why I still have this game installed anyway…At least I now have Dark Souls PTPE (which isn’t bad at all as long as you own a controller)
i had a lot of fun playing this during one of the beta weekends
while it was online only at the time i was able to host the server (ready for it) LOCALLY
hooray for not putting up with Australian latency, even had some ausbros join me
its a good game, you would be very silly not to get it if your a fan of ARPGs
I tried the beta and it blew all other ARPGs out there right now. It’s amazing, really good and fast gameplay. Not enough that there are all these improvements over Torchlight 1, it also has multiplayer, offline play, lan play, support for custom content and a lot of other cool stuff. I really hope it’s going to succeed enough for it to catch attention of people who got Diablo 3 only out of hype and because it was made by Blizzard.
Torchlight II is going to be the kind of game that doesn’t really need viral marketing since the developer is so respected. I don’t really like that kind of game, but I will be purchasing it to support the developer.
