Finally after 8 years Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords has made its way to Steam. Developed by Obsidian Entertainment, KOTOR2 takes place five years after the events of the first title. You play as the “Exile” who must restore his/her connection to the force while being hounded by both Sith and bounty hunter alike.
KOTOR2 contains brilliant writing and character development while adding a much-needed depth to the Star Wars universe. It starts out on a bad footing by thrusting the player into the somewhat bland and confusing Peragus facility, but from there on it builds upon itself and takes advantage of the vast universe at its disposal. It’s a game that relies on the gameplay Bioware used in the original KOTOR, but the story and unique moral choices are what make the game so unique and compelling.
Though unfinished and buggy, the community have since rectified most of these problems by releasing fixes and content mods such as The Sith Lords Restored Content Mod (TSLRCM).
Though it’s been sadly retconned to make way for the abomination that was Biowares recent MMO, that shouldn’t stop you from trying out one of the best Star Wars/RPG title of the decade.

I really liked that this game wasn’t just GOOD GUISE N BAD GUISE. It brought much more perspective to the otherwise very generic Jedi-Sith conflict. Too bad Lucas doesn’t want complexity, and gave the OK to retcon the whole game.
Lucas arts has fallen far
As MrBTongue pointed out in his final TUN video on Mass Effect, the lack of narrative legitimacy in the writing of Bioware’s latest games means we’re free to simply ignore the bastardization of the formerly great KotOR storyline. TORtanic’s pathetic writing is no more legitimate than any given piece of fanfiction, so feel free to keep loving the deeper and more innovative storytelling of this far superior game. In a couple months TOR is going to disappear forever anyways, and maybe in a couple years we’ll actually get a legitimate conclusion to the KotOR storyline. Wishful thinking? Maybe. But hell, I’m not going to let today’s Bioware ruin the experience of its (and Obsidian’s) former glories for me.
TOR wont die just have a lower sub rate so yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhh keep dreaming your fanboy fantasy’s
I still have the old box set of kotor 2 but it’s still neat to see a great -though flawed game-go onto steam so people who haven’t played it can now. But it has been awhile since I played it so what did bioware retcon in kotor2 for swtor exactly?
“(…)what did bioware retcon in kotor2 for swtor exactly?”
Everything that made KOTOR2 interesting. The concept of wounding the force, the nature of the Sith Lords, the Sith Lords themselves, Nihilus’ abilities, the Exile’s abilities, the entire plot of KOTOR 2 and everything it had to say about the Star Wars setting.

Waiting for an OSX version. Pretty please?
KOTOR 2 not canon ding dong bannu
Only a little bit sad that I can’t accuse Lucas Arts of trying to kill this game by refusing to give it a digital release. Oh well. Time to play the best story telling in the Star Wars universe, then.
I remember coming into this game expecting to go full Lightside like I did in the first KOTOR, only to find that it shit on you at every opportunity for doing so. It actually made you deal with the consequences of your actions, and consequences came even from trying to do the “good” things. Made me completely reexamine the Star Wars universe and the Jedi/Sith dichotomy.
More games need to do this. These days when a game presents you with a good/evil choice, there is almost never a drawback to trying to do the right thing, and you actually tend to come out ahead for doing so (Mass Effect, Bioshock, Infamous, etc.).
A mediocre 8 year old game gets a digital re-release and it’s news?
