Blizzard Releases the Opening Cinematic for Mists of Pandaria

Say what you will about Blizzard’s games, they know how to put together a cinematic. They’ve always been great, but man, the quality of that CG has gotten scary good in recent years… With World of Warcraft‘s Mists of Pandaria expansion little more than a month away, Blizzard released the game’s CG cinematic today at GamesCom to get everyone hyped/enraged. Without further ado, enjoy watching a panda beat the crap out of an orc and an Alliance marine.

I like the part where Kunkka made a quarterstaff.

It was a rather silly trailer with some decent choreography. I think the beginning and ending speeches are cringe worthy and very, very hokey but maybe that’s the intended effect since the expansion stems from a joke.

  3. The amazing 3d work aside…this trailer makes me embarrassed to have ever played WoW. They have completely done a 360, in not only gameplay, themes but clearly their cinematics and audience as well. The only thing missing from this trailer was Buzz Lightyear.

But whatever, let the kids enjoy it I guess.

    • Considering the heavy nature of the last three expansions, I find it hard to believe so many people are throwing such a fit over the one and only light hearted expansion this game will ever receive. The next one is going to be the last, and I’m sure it’ll be the epic note everyone wants to see.

      • It won’t be the epic note that everyone wants to see. Blizzard have betrayed their original audience three times over, and they’ll betray this crowd too in favor of the next big trend. I’d be surprised if MoP held 6-7m subs by the end of it’s lifecycle.

        • And how exactly have they “betrayed,” their original audience? To say the least amount possible about them, BC improved PvP, WotLK improved raids and dungeons, Cata revamped the entire original game and guild systems. It’s all been steady improvements, and I’m sure the final one will be as well. They haven’t even touched the Emerald Dream yet.

The only reason why subs go down is because the next expansion is so close, so progressing any further would be next to useless.

          • Right. If you think that 3 million people left because they’re waiting on the expansion you need a reality check. There have been expansions before this one, and not a fifth of the amount of people have left to “wait” for the next one.

There are more people that used to play WoW that there are currently active subscriptions. That’s Blizzard’s past audience, and they were betrayed by changing the core ruleset of the game…the ruleset that they came to play for.

          • Oh god, I need a reality check? Yeah buddy, cause those big mean game companies just love making you feel bad. Get a grip.

“There are more people that used to play WoW that there are currently active subscriptions.”

Yeah no shit, the game has been out for almost 10 years. Its bound to happen, it’s not just people who got “betrayed,” people move on, bots get banned, and some people get butthurt. WoW looses subs every year, and after the expansion comes out, the numbers shoot right back up. Just wait till next month.
