Why you should never pirate

The government simply has your best interests at heart.

Some gamers feel entitled to games that they didn’t pay for. They feel like they should get to play the game without giving anything back to the developer. This is childish, and morally wrong; there is supposed to be an exchange of goods between a seller and a consumer. You get a product from someone when you give something to them first, usually money. There is no situation where breaking such a basic concept is correct. But everyone already knows this. The reason piracy still goes on is that pirates don’t care about what happens to others, only to themselves. That’s why I’m here to explain why it’s also in your best interests not to pirate videogames.

When you pirate a game, the person that made it gets no money. If the industry becomes unprofitable, all the investors and big publishers will move onto other things. Do you really want to live in a world where EA and Activision doesn’t exist? You’re basically killing them by pirating their products.

You may also be killed; real pirates from Somalia don’t like software pirates as they feel that they make the “real” pirates look weak. These pirates can regularly be found searching the seas for software pirates to torture and execute. They usually don’t find any, since all software pirates aren’t found in the sea but in their parent’s basement, but it’s only a matter of time until they figure that out. Do you want to be responsible for when Somalia invades the US and starts world war 3, just because they wanted to help the noble anti-piracy cause? I think not.

PETA will also try to attack you, as piracy causes major amounts of pollution. You see, the radiowaves used to download pirated products are dirty and pollute the air, since they are unregulated. Legal downloads are regulated by state engineers to make sure that they are as clean as possible. Do you hate mother nature? Do you want global warming to be real? Because you’re causing it when you pirate. Getting yourself killed is one thing, but killing the entire world is another.

You too can help.

Of course, piracy is illegal and therefore punishable by law. If you get caught for pirating, you will go face a fine and possible jail time. What most people don’t realize is that you can also go to jail for breaking other laws indirectly. You see, many people will hide secondary programs in torrent files. One of the more popular ones sets your computer up as a connection point. Your computer will be one of many in a chain used to send illegal content over the internet, namely child pornography. So not only are you a thief, but you’re also a pedophile.

This should be enough for anyone to stop, but it actually only gets worse. Other, albeit less popular, viruses will cause certain parts of your computer to run faster than normal. Soon, your parts actually melt. This melting creates a noxious gas that causes cancer when inhaled. You may think you can avoid the police, but can you avoid the grim reaper? Certain versions will also change your genetic structure so that you are more susceptible to be indoctrinated by dark gods such as Ia, Ftahgn, Cthulhu and R’lyeh. This information is more for newer pirates; any pirate that doesn’t understand the immorality of his actions after the first month of using torrents probably already prays to dark gods, since doing so can help download speeds by up to 40%.

To conclude, pirates are nature hating, paedophilic, war-mongering, demon worshippers that are hurting the bottom line of EA. Shameful, just absolutely shameful. You may be asking, “how can I help?” You can do it by buying good games, like Mass Effect 3, Modern Warfare 3, and any sequel to a long-running franchise that have been updated with great modern features like regen health and cover systems. We can make a difference!

what i never quite could understand is if the “pirate” hates the game so much, why does he torrent it to start with? im too busy with good games to torrent the bad ones.
unless your just one of those dicks that torrents everything, in which case, screw you, your the reason they make day one DLC and locked multiplayer.

I always use my experience buying AC: Brotherhood for PC as an example. It was one of the few games I pre-ordered. Come release date… well it didn’t release. It took about 2 days to finally come out with hardly any communication from Ubisoft.

When it did eventually come out, it didn’t work for me. I could not get it to work at all.

So I downloaded a copy of the pirate bay. And it worked first time perfectly. It was a few more days before a patch was out for the legit version that let me get it working. And I only ever played the multiplayer once.

It’s shit like this. And GFWL, Rockstar Social Club and putting my email and password into yet another website. It takes the piss. When a game is easier to pirate than it is to pay for – fuck you!

At least 100,000 deaths occur each year due to video game piracy. Just let that fact soak in.

Please don’t spread misinformation. What you posted is the count of helpless baby animals that die each year through the direct effects of piracy. The number of brutal deaths and disfigurements of sweet innocent children is in fact much higher.

Good article but you forgot to say how downloading ROMs to play 20 year old platformers is bankrupting the publishers

  6. I pirate everything and pay only for games I really enjoyed very much.

Also, >Do you really want to live in a world where EA and Activision doesn’t exist?
YES I FUCKING DO YOU IDIOT

Well put, but I am still poor, and no matter how much money I give the gaming industry, that isn’t going to change.

  8. This can´t be serious… Please someone tell me this is made up, because otherwise…
What the actual almighty f**K were they thinking? Biggest pile of bulls**t i´ve ever read.
Btw R´lyeh is the sunken city Cthulhu is said to sleep in… Can´t get more stupid :D Next you will try to explain to us how piracy will cause the sun to implode -.-

  9. Most of the “good” games have been watered down to garbage level just so that they can sell a lot of copies based on the title. And I won’t support that, I won’t support their shitty business model and developers.

When someone fails to deliver an appropriate experience – it feels right that people decide to pirate the said game instead; unhappy customers don’t buy the product, but if they can get it for free then it’s another story.

This is a beautiful honeypot article. I look forward to more comments by people who only read the title and/or don’t understand satire.

And the sad fact of the matter is that big publishers will never understand that DRM does nothing to stop it and only makes the paying consumer suffer. A server-based game like Diablo 3 is another story, but, I doubt others are going to be so willing to dedicate so much server-maintenance money just to curb a few pirates.

    • the only reason D3 is online is to force the use of the RMAH/GAH. WoW is a sever game and has been pirated since release, as has D3. It has nothing to do with “preventing piracy” as they claim.

Wait, praying to dark gods will increase my torrent speeds? No WONDER it takes so long to download games!

Its like we’re Batman and EA is the mob and DRM is the Joker – we’ve pirated them out of so much of their profit that they’ve turned to something they don’t quite fully understand and now we’re having a hard time dealing with it.

  18. Yeah, nah.

Back in the day, we didn’t need to pirate because there was an understanding, you provide X amount of available media for us to judge our purchase on, and then you don’t charge more than Y for us to play it.

I’m talking good, solid gameplay videos, single AND multiplayer demos. If I’m not given sufficient opportunities to figure out whether this game is worth the money, it’s no surprise I have to pirate my own demo. If I don’t enjoy it, I won’t finish it and I’ll uninstall. If I do, I’ll buy it.

Developers with unethical business practices cause piracy.

  19. And yeah, I’m aware the article is satirical. It’s also pointless.
