Call of Duty: Ghosts Reuses an Entire Cutscene from Modern Warfare 2

Call of Duty: Ghosts Reuses an Entire Cutscene from Modern Warfare 2

Oh come on now, really? The post-launch fallout from Call of Duty: Ghosts continues this morning with evidence that the animations from an entire Modern Warfare 2 cutscene were reused as a corner cutting measure in Ghosts. As if we needed another reminder that these games have been almost completely the same for about seven years now.

Ghosts has been met with what seems like an unexpectedly cold reception from fans online despite apparently strong initial sales. Reviews average somewhere in the 7-8/10 range, suggesting that even the press, typically infuriatingly forgiving of the series’ rehash nature, may finally be tiring of the formula as well. Could there actually be hope that we might leave Call of Duty behind as the template first-person shooter going into the next generation?

If I recall correctly they were bragging about their motion capture animations in one of the first trailers. I guess they spent all the mocap resources on the dog animations.

Oh god the front page quote, i’ve never seen it used more appropriately.
